Although we had our official opening in April 2023 our community rooms were having the finishing touches applied and weren’t ready to share with the public. On Wednesday 10th May the FRIEL room was used for the first time for First Aid training from St John’s Ambulance, which everyone successfully completed.
The Friel room is named after one of Tabor Living’s supporters, Bill Friel, whose company Friel Homes, completed a lot of the building work at St Catherine of Siena. During the building works guests from Tabor had the opportunity to acquire new skills and although building works are almost complete Bill Friel continues to support the project. The community room was named after him in recognition of and gratitude for his contribution to our new home.
Tabor organised the training for staff, volunteers and guests and were joined by staff and volunteers from other community and partner projects including Teresa from Fatima House, Abi, Karen and Ann from St Chad’s Sanctuary and Liudmyla, the Ukraine Refugee Project Co-ordinator. A couple of Annie’s also managed to get in the photo.
In their previous home in Digbeth we had limited community space and it was one of the things we’re looking forward to in our new home. We hope the Friel Room sees lots of training, celebrations and other special events in future.
